I tried to go here twice, but was turned away because 1) they stopped accepting new patients at 3pm to make sure their staff can leave at their 6pm official closing time, and 2) because since they couldn't offer a referral as I hadn't yet chosen my primary care doctor, they simply turned me away because "we probably can't do anything for you—despite me having Medi-Cal coverage. Also, the large woman I encountered both times at the tiny reception area is quite rude and dismissive, and talked very aggressively over me, not letting me speak once she decided she wasn't going to allow me to get care there—and I'm a very clear and calm speaker.. She needs to be better trained in how to interact with people in a considerate, adult way.

I've been a patient of the Cancer Center for two years and I'm still on treatment. Since the first time I was there I felt so pampered by all the staff that the entire process has been much easier. It was a real blessing being treated in this clinic.

The only reason why this is two stars instead of one is because there are staff members like social workers, nurses and facilitators who are genuinely great and very supportive. The psychiatrists, however, have been inconsistent and hard to get hold of. My partner, someone i've been with for over 10 years, has been going to their php program which was going okay. Then was suddenly admitted into in-patient on a Friday, after expressing fleeting intrusive thoughts of self-harm but having absolutely NO intention of following through. There was no communication, no discussion. I tried calling all afternoon to talk to the psychiatrist, and either got a mailbox that was full, or was told i'll get a call back which never happened. Over the span of a few days, my partner has seen 3 different psychiatrist - each new face saying they don't know enough to feel comfortable discharging my partner and just passed the buck. The social worker seems to be advocating for us, but even they seem to have a hard time accessing a psychiatrist. During all this time, my partner is stuck in a ward, feeling worse, instead of being with his friends and community who want to spend time with him, and can vou

This place and the people in it save precious lives everyday. My mother has spent many nights in facilities like these as someone with a severe mental illness. This one was different. It was compassionate. The doctors were caring and invested in helping her get better with the right treatment and medications. It’s a fine balance trying to figure out what each individual person needs — and the doctors and staff from the recreational therapists to the people who brought her the socks with the sticky bottoms each day — helped her feel safe and cared for. Surprisingly, she said the food wasn’t bad at all.
