The care I received here was some of the best in the country (if not, the best) and I have been to international hospitals, Mayo Clinic, Duke, Novant, Emory ... all the "best" ones -- and they knocked them all out of the park. They do not treat you like a lab rat, are thorough in their desire to investigate and put the puzzle pieces together, as well as use common sense to treat you. Most places just look for a test and corresponding pharmaceutical and they become robotic and are not geared to healing, even and especially at the "best" hospitals. But at St. Johns I was respected as a patient and I felt very taken care of and the doctors were determined to discover. the answers and connect the dots. Dr. Latif was my attending and the specialists who came to see me in Cardiology, Vascular, and so forth were amazing. SO intelligent. The nurses were also fantastic. Even the food was better -- most of the time any hospital gives you basically dog food. Thank you to this institution for how they run this hospital, I wish more were like you, and please keep up the good work.

I had an exceptional experience at St. John’s Hospital while delivering my baby girl a month ago, and I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding care I received from the entire team. A special thank you goes to Victoria, my labor and delivery nurse, who was with me from beginning to end. Victoria was professional, highly knowledgeable, compassionate, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. She always seemed one step ahead, knew exactly what to do, and helped me feel calm and confident during labor. Her expertise, kindness, and reassuring presence made such a positive difference, and I truly believe she played a major role in making my delivery so smooth and positive. I cannot thank her enough. Dr. Shulman was also wonderful and provided excellent care during the delivery of my daughter. I felt well cared for and supported every step of the way. I would also like to recognize Bonnie, who helped me during my first visit to triage. She was kind, attentive, and made me feel comfortable during what could have been a stressful experience. I do not understand how this hospital has such a high rating. We have a family member in the ICU in critical care and have received the most abysmal care and treatment the past week. There was a severe miscommunication by part of a nurse that altered the whole situation after we found out that our family member was in a coma, and not "sleeping" like the nurse informed us. Every nurse tried to hide information or fails to tell us the truth of what is going on. The people working at the front desk are incredibly insensitive, even telling my family that "it was unnecessary to visit every day." I hope that woman never deals with a situation like ours and is faced with such ignorance!! The doctors also do not call you when they say they will. It's a mess and this place is terrible. Only one nurse has been amazing, and his name was Andrew. Everyone else is a living stereotype of why nurses have a bad name. Shameful.

My partner is currently one of the most critical patients in the ICU, and I cannot express how grateful I am for this hospital and every single staff member. From the security guards at the front who are always welcoming, to the parking staff, janitors, ICU nurses, and doctors everyone has shown incredible kindness, compassion, and professionalism. The janitor lady always checks in on me with positivity and reminds me to stay strong. The ICU nurses are truly superheroes fast, attentive, and constantly on top of everything while still treating patients and families with so much care and humanity. I’ve been staying here for the past two weeks, and even when I leave to shower or rest, they make me feel at ease, make sure I have blankets and pillows, and remind me to take care of myself too. I have no complaints at all. Just deep gratitude for the way they’ve cared for both my partner and me during one of the hardest times of our lives.

I underwent surgery here in 2024 and my experience was so positive, I returned to help the Health Center raise vital funds for programs and equipment. That’s how powerful this place is. With its foundation in Christian care, there really is an undercurrent of excellence AND compassion that runs through everything Saint John’s touches - its doctors, nurses, researchers, fellows, staff and volunteers. Beautifully redesigned after the ‘94 earthquake, this place really is something special - from the airy and welcoming lobby area and the excellent cafeteria to the beautiful chapel on the fourth floor and the Caritas Suites. If you want a heightened healthcare experience, it’s on the LA Westside
