Great medical care and the Drs and Nurses are very caring and gentle with patients and their family. Excellent and Top Drs and nurses they know their Jobs well. My husband is 81 years old and he had heart surgery. Everything went well. I thank God for this Veteran hospital here in Palo Alto.

Worst experience dealing with this place for my father. They didn't tell him the seriousness or type of the procedure he was having and when we didn't hear anything after a few hours, we called and turns out it was very serious, over 5 hours long and resulted in ICU stay. He can't get help in the home because it has to be ordered 15 days in advance but the procedure was emergency last minute so no help at home unless he pays out of pocket. I call when he is moved to a regular room but didn't know the unit and he isn't able to remember the unit name because you know, he's not well and information overload. When I told the operator he didn't know the unit, she goes "That's crazy." Um no it's not. Elderly people get overwhelmed, he's been shuffled around the hospital and I live out of state so do your job and look him up. Worst place ever and I will be encouraging my father to go back to non-VA places.

Good service. However if you get admitted into over night care. They have no respect for keeping you in the loop of what's going on. Only vague non-descriptive answers

Cataract surgery done by a novice has left me with vision that is distorted, cross eyed, blurred, causing loss of depth perception, vertigo, and generally unacceptable vision. I would be better off if they would have blinded me. Not a good predicament for a visual artist. Of course, there's nothing the lame Opthomology department can do for me. Editing: So this post generated two phone calls, one from a patient advocate, one from a n Opthomologist. The patient advocate said that's to bad, the Opthomologist suggested I get a new pair of glasses. This is the second pair of glasses since the cataract surgery, unfortunately this has not cured the problems. No follow-up from the VA. Update... Optometry has decided to use a prism in addition to the correction prescription of my right eye in the most recent pair of glasses to alleviate some anomalies occurring. This is my sixth pair of glasses since the surgery. Those glasses didn't work out, caused severe eyeball pain and discomfort along with no relief of vertigo, blurred vision, or double vision.

By far the absolute best healthcare facility I've ever been to. I've cared for two veteran friends and the service they receive here is without comparison. From a simple run to emergency, to a normal Dr's visit, all the way to IC, the staff, care, attentiveness, technology, equipment, design, function is top shelf...... It truly makes me proud of how we care for our veterans, they deserve this level of attention.
