I explained in some detail how I was ripped off by this place. I quoted Carley's admission. They replied mendaciously, eg "no one would sign for the check.". That a lie. We never got a check. I asked him to send it again since that supposed check wasn't cashed but he refused. The answer has other misinformation and we've heard from his staff and former staff that they knowingly and systematically do this. I plan to take them to small claims court as soon as I can resolve certain medical conditions. They've paid off former staffers they cheated. Their answer has vague and intentionally misleading statements which I will prove in court when I'm well enough. I can't put more energy into this immediately. Carley also tried to get me to join some funky church he's involved with. It was very offensive to me. Their reply also lied by saying there was one overcharge whereas you can see from my re-posts of our exchange, I'd documented no fewer that SIX. It was systematic. I'm a UC Prof who had to retire to deal with medical problems. This is one of the best dental clinics I have ever been to. I arrived at 8 AM and the staff was quite ready—hospitable and patient. My consultation for the treatment plan with Dr. Schaeffer was thorough and detailed. I also appreciate being able to choose my music for the TV on the ceiling. Highly recommend everybody with a compatible insurance to consider this clinic as the first choice in the area.

I'm writing this review because my experience at Mountain & Sea Dental was overwhelmingly negative in ways that felt avoidable and unnecessary. My biggest issue was the ongoing lack of clear, accurate information. I was always very explicit that I only wanted the work we had agreed on--no surprises, no additions. Despite that, I always left the office with innumerable extra fees and then was repeatedly told certain procedures would be covered by insurance, only to find out afterward that they weren't. During my final visit, I was absolutely clear I just wanted a cleaning and then was coerced into x-rays. I refused them THREE TIMES and they insisted I get them done, assuring me insurance would cover them. I had no time to explore this claim and consented, only to, of course, end up with a huge bill. Customer service at the front desk only added to the frustration. They were consistently dismissive, unhelpful, and at times outright rude. Any attempt to get clarity about billing or treatment was met with condescension or impatience. The whole office has an unfriendly, uncomfortable energy. Dec 9 2025 Patient (me) to Dr Carley by email Dear Dr Carley, I’m contacting you about the repeated $224 lab fee that was added to my account. This charge is not permitted under current dental billing regulations, and I was billed for it six times. That comes to $ 1344 I am requesting an immediate refund of the total amount.
