My time at Del Amo’s CTC wing was an experience I will take with me for a lifetime. As a veteran that suffers from PTSD, i’ve been unfortunately in and out of mental facilities however, my time at Del Amo was truly a pleasure. This is the only place where I’ve seen veteran and civilian patients actually improve. I’m talking full 180’s in the weeks I was there. Much of this can be credited to the great staff working there. From the nurses to the veterans coordinator, all help run a very special program here. Even more surprising were the relationships that I built during my time here. I can honestly say that i departed with friendships that I know will last a lifetime. CTC isn’t without its faults though. For starters, the quality of the food at the hospital leaves much to be desired. The wing could do a lot better in reducing light and sound at bedtime. One of the most common complaints by patients was the inability to fall asleep due to these issues. And would be nice to see some of the artificial grass seen on other units be placed in this one, as opposed to the cement floor of its courtyard. Del amo has a beautiful veterans, mental health wing weather is amazing nurses beautiful staff very friendly very accommodating very understanding even when you don't understand why you're there. Lol shout out to Chuck Kelly's Mesa Edwin and all the other staff. The only bad thing I could say they have a young doctor that comes in and says you're going to be leaving soon and they'll put you in for discharge and that doctor is not in charge of discharge gets patients upset when they're not leaving within 3 days. I made a grievance about it they give the patients right. They are very accommodating in the veterans wing. They even allow other patients the ability to be in the veterans wing. I just say they have to change it from CTC which is a childhood trauma care, to veterans trauma unit and trans lgbtqh care. It gives a very supportive place to have a coed space and their own bed and own room I as a person who went through top surgery and identify as lesbian female I found their level of care for the LGBTQH community above and beyond.

My experience was a nightmare at Del Amo Behavioral Health Hospital was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I was told I would only be there for approximately 72 hours, but I ended up staying for 5 days. During my stay, I felt pressured to take medications. I was told that if I did not take the medication, I would not be allowed to leave. This was communicated to me by Dr. Valdez, and I felt that I did not have a meaningful choice in the matter. I was also very disappointed with how my girlfriend was treated when she called to check on me. She was repeatedly put on hold for long periods of time, and I was told that staff would say I was busy when, according to my understanding, that was not the case. This caused both of us a great deal of frustration and distress. Overall, I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously and that I was not treated with the respect and dignity I expected from a behavioral health facility. I believe patients and their families deserve clear communication, respect, transparency, and to have their rights taken seriously. I stayed at the CTC unit here at Del Amo and it was really great!! All the nurses/staff were so kind to me and I couldn’t have asked for a better stay at any hospital. They really care about the patients here and want them to get the proper help & care that they need. Thank you to everyone working at CTC!! Shout out to both Kelly’s, Christi, Edwin & Allan :•)

I am extremely disappointed and honestly shocked by the phone call I just had with a staff member at Del Amo Hospital. I called regarding a loved one, and I am listed on the appropriate release of information. The person I spoke with was incredibly short with me, unhelpful, and ultimately hung up on me. That is completely unacceptable. I understand that working in a psychiatric hospital is difficult and demanding. However, families and loved ones calling your facility are often already dealing with an incredibly stressful and frightening situation. We should not be treated as though we are an inconvenience for trying to get information and support someone we care about. A difficult job does not excuse being rude or dismissive to the people calling for help. Staff should remember that the families on the other end of the phone are struggling too, and we are not responsible for how difficult or stressful their job may be. I am genuinely shocked by how this call was handled. A psychiatric hospital, of all places, should understand the importance of treating patients and their loved ones with basic compassion, patience, and professionalism.

Was put in TCU Unit first, it was like a horror movie. I was evaluated by Dr. Stephanoff and he was great. The social worker and staff, Kristy took me to CTC after half a day of being in TCU. CTC was fantastic. Such a change from TCU. Other patients were so welcoming. A much needed reset I didn't know I needed. I was able to call home whenever. Selina was also very sweet. If you are able to, call beforehand to make sure there's a bed available in CTC so you do not end up in TCU or Del Sol.

My overall stay at Del Amo was completely satisfactory. Special thanks to all the staff who always went above and beyond to make sure my needs and requests were heard and attended to the best of their ability to include the nursing staff, the doctors, and social workers. For anyone looking at receiving this type of care, I’d recommend this location.

My therapist listened carefully to my concerns and helped me develop practical coping skills that have made a real difference in my daily life. The care team communicated well, appointments were easy to schedule, and I felt supported throughout my treatment. The services provided have greatly improved my mental health and overall well-being.
